The air handling unit is a critical part of central air conditioners, packaged air conditioners and roof mount split air conditioners. The air handling unit, which is comprised of the coiling coil, blower, and filter, handles the cooling, filtering and re-circulation of air.
The importance of each part of the air handling unit is discussed below:
1. Box Enclosure: All the aspects of the air handling unit are housed in this compact box enclosure. The whole box is insulated to prevent the loss of heat from the unit.
2. Cooling Coil: Made up of twisted copper tubing covered with fins, which increase heat transfer efficiency, the cooling coil is one of the most important components of the air handling unit. Hot air flows over the cooling coil, via return air ducts, and gets cooled before it is re-circulated to various rooms.
3. Ductwork: The air handling unit is connected to a series of air ducts that bring warm air to the unit to be cooled (return duct) and transfer cool air throughout the various rooms of the building (supply duct).
4. Blower: The blower sucks warm air from the room, blows it over the cooling coil, which cools it, and then sends the cooled air throughout the ductwork to the various rooms.
5. Air Filter: The air filter removes dirt, debris and other contaminants from the air.
